She later completed a Marketing Management Programme in the Harvard Business School. She was one of the founding partners of Wilson Hartnell Public Relations and was Managing Director until 2003. She was subsequently appointed Chairman until December 2007.She is chairman of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and completed her term as chairman of the RTÉ Authority in December 2008. She is a director of Canada Life (Ireland), the ICS Building Society, Opera Ireland, the Gate Theatre, the Dublin City University Educational Trust, the UCD Clinton Institute for American Studies and the Buildings of Ireland Charitable Trust. She was a member of the council of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) from 1997 to 2007. She was the first woman president of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
