Author of bestseller ‘One Spin on the Merry-go-Round’, an account of turbulent years with Taoiseach Albert Reynolds. In journalism since the mid-Fifties, he reported for The Connacht Tribune and Independent Newspapers before joining RTE I 1963. Five years later, he worked in association with editor Mike Burns; he launched Radio’s News at One and This Week whose staff recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the two programmes. In 1989, he became the first presenter of RTE’s Six-One News, a slot which he occupied for three eventful years during which he won a prestigious Jacob’s Award.
